PILLAR DIAL FOR LOCH LOMOND GOLF CLUB
David Harber is currently creating a new piece for the Loch Lomond Golf Club in Scotland — one of the finest golf courses in the world.
The dial is a contemporary interpretation of a traditional obelisk-shaped Scottish multiple sundial. These remarkable dials, typically around seven foot high and smothered with small sundials, were popular in Scotland from the seventeenth century. A famous example is in the gardens of Drummonds Castle in Perthshire.
Following in the tradition, the Loch Lomond pillar dial will stand 3.5 metres in height and incorporate 20 sundials. Unlike the old multiple sundials however, it will be made of stainless steel, not stone.
