The history of the sundial is the eternal story of man's struggle to understand his place in the universe.

It begins in ancient history, at that point when man first noticed and wondered at the lengthening and shortening of his own shadow.

In time, the world's great civilizations - Babylonian, Mayan, Chinese, Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Moorish - would all seek to capture and express the relationship between time and space through gnomonics, the art and science of "dialling".

Conduits between two worlds, dials soon acquired the power of oracles, imparters of eternal truths to mortal eyes.
